I have spent many an afternoon as a child pouring over an old photo album of photos of me as a child, and that included quite a number of photos from my baptism at Holy Protection Monastery in Pennsylvania. I can't describe to you how loved I felt looking back at these sometimes blurry and overexposed photos of my proud parents, delighted Godmother, and tiny me (drowning in piles of white fabric and lace). I think it's important to capture these moments, and capture them well. So you, your kids, and grandkids can learn the story of the life in Christ that's shaped your family.

Just like Holy Matrimony, Baptism is one of the Holy Mysteries of the Orthodox Church. I find it's one of my favorite services to photograph. And as an Orthodox Christian, particularly as a priest's kid and a longstanding member of our parish's choir, I'm all too familiar with this service! And that means I can confidently capture every moment, never missing a key shot. And the fact that I will happily wear a headscarf and cross myself at every "Glory..Now and Ever.." means I'm likely to be on good terms with any priest!
